Rig Inspections

Keeping a drilling or workover rig operating at a top level of performance requires not only a dedicated robust maintenance program but regular checkups to ensure that the equipment and systems work at optimal levels.  This includes ensuring the equipment is not only kept up to OEM design standards, including latest product update initiatives, but ensuring that equipment and systems follow the latest Industry standards like API, ASME, ANSI, NFPA, plus Class and Flag State requirements such as ABS, DNV, SOLAS, MARPOL, and IMO.  Our team can help achieve your operational goals by ensuring not only these statutory requirements are met, but your contractual requirements are met as well.

Full Rig Inspection – Rig QA International has in excess of 22 years of rig inspection experience. Over the years we have developed a formidable inspection format for all the different types of rigs, from the latest generation Drillships, Semi-submersibles, Jack-ups, and Rigless units to Land Rigs and Truck Mounted rigs. We have the expertise to evaluate and report on all aspects of each type of rig. Our inspection teams have been selected on their knowledge, competence, and skill. We have also maintained a steady team over many years with a core group that anchors our project teams. We have SMEs in all disciplines required and our deliverables have consistently exceeded our client’s requirements.

Electrical Inspection – We have a detailed electrical audit protocol that covers all aspects of the rigs. Our electrical team can evaluate systems ranging from high voltage to controls and software, giving a detailed report identifying gaps in the systems. We follow national and international electric standards, as well as recommended practices for all the different countries we perform the inspections in. This can significantly reduce the risks associated with electrical issues and verify the integrity and performance of the electrical system. The survey covers installation methodologies used, maintenance of the electrical system, identification of previous repairs, identification of active and potential deficiencies, equipment classification and zone requirements. In addition to this all certifications of components and equipment are reviewed in tandem with past maintenance records and inspections such as EX Flame Path examinations.

Mechanical Inspection – Our mechanical inspection audits cover all aspects of the mechanical integrity of the rig. The results of these audits have helped identify issues that could result in down time or other losses. Our SMEs are experts in this field with proven track records in the industry. The inspection covers mechanical integrity, maintenance, installation, and training. We also review all required certification and inspection records of the equipment.

Mud System Inspection – We have developed a Mud System audit protocol that identifies any anomalies in the mud systems. This is achieved through visual inspection and performance testing of the low pressure and high-pressure mud systems. This in-depth audit covers equipment, consumables, personnel, training and maintenance. Whether the mud system is manual to fully automated our personnel are capable of assessing the current operating condition of the mud system; from evaluation of piping surveys, to ensuring that P&IDs are current and up to date, to assessing environmental protections and loss of containment concerns. Also, evaluation of the operational efficiency of solids control equipment for drilling mud will aid in giving clients a detailed overview of the current systems condition.

Drilling Systems – Our Drilling System Audit covers all aspects of the rigs drilling systems from the crown to the ground and all the surrounding equipment. We review equipment condition, maintenance, certification, and operational capability giving an in-depth review of the system identifying any gaps.

DP – Rig QA provides an experienced multi-disciplinary team of engineering and operational resources to support Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems globally covering technical, assurance and project management scopes of work. In doing so, we aim to assist clients to operate and validate their DP systems according to their units’ specific industrial mission, including drilling units, project, and construction vessels.

Our DP teams are experienced in all types of DP vessels with DP notations DP-1, DP-2 and DP-3 and utilize IMO, Class Rules, IMCA and MTS requirements and guidance.

Power Management – Our team can review and report on the current power management status. This will include equipment condition, maintenance history, performance, capability and associated risks with the current system. We can advise on upgrades and system improvement methods to improve efficiencies and reduce costs.

Every drilling and workover rig needs to ensure not only that it has the right equipment, but that the equipment along with its controls works together as a complete system. Our commissioning personnel will work with you and your contractor to develop a customized program (and checklist) that fits with your rig’s equipment that will test the equipment as a system. Ensuring that your rig meets your contract requirements and well design.

Program Development – We will develop a custom Commissioning program that will address all the requirements to ensure that all expectations are met. Our expert team can advise on standards, industry best practices. We provide yard teams to represent and work with our clients throughout the construction or conversion of an offshore drilling asset.

Execute Program – This phase of the commissioning we assure that all systems and components are designed, installed, and maintained according to your requirements. The commissioning phase is often challenging, because of issues with interfaces that could not be tested during FAT. Hence it is of key importance to us, that our commissioning teams have all the required skills and knowledge to execute the commission project.

BOPS – Rig QA perform inspections on both surface and subsurface BOP systems. We evaluate and perform tests to determine the integrity of the well control equipment.

Our inspections are performed to the highest standards, and we follow all procedures, international standards and recommended practices to ensure that the equipment is maintained and tested as required. We evaluate personnel competency to ensure that the workforce have the skills and knowledge to perform well control functions safely and efficiently.

Wireline – Rig QAs Audit protocol ensures that we establish that the vendor follows their QMS, local legislation and industry standards. Our specialist team can perform a complete evaluation of your coiled tubing operation, focusing on equipment condition, maintenance and operational processes, personnel competency and report on the current status of the crew’s knowledge base. Our in-depth Inspection protocol ensures that we identify, categorize and report all findings. In addition, we can coach and train personnel on best practices to assist in becoming compliant to industry best practices.

Coiled Tubing – Rig QA has the expertise to deliver comprehensive assessments of Coiled Tubing units and Coiled Tubing service providers. Our inspection protocol has been developed to cover all areas of coiled tubing operations that will ensure our clients have a detailed report on compliance, maintenance, equipment condition, standards as well as personnel competency and training. The audits can be conducted on rig locations and/or at the facilities of the Coil Tubing Vendor.
